Solar and Energy Loan Fund (SELF) Coalition Partners Awarded $15 Billion to Bring Clean Energy, Green Building, and Zero-Emissions Transportation to Disadvantaged Communities

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 4, 2024

The Solar and Energy Loan Fund (SELF), America’s first local, hybrid non-profit Green Bank and Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), announced today that its coalition partners have been awarded a total of $15.2 billion from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. These partnerships include Coalition for Green Capital, Climate United Fund, Justice Climate Fund, and Opportunity Finance Network. As a subawardee and key member of these coalitions, SELF will support deployment of these funds to catalyze clean energy, green building, and zero-emissions transportation in disadvantaged communities.

This funding will allow SELF to dramatically scale its existing energy efficiency and net-zero financing for low and moderate income homeowners, small-scale landlords, and emerging developers. SELF will also soon launch new initiatives that benefit communities as a whole, such as retrofitting churches and financing clean transportation, solidifying its position as a one-stop shop for communities to make a just transition to the clean energy economy.

“Clean energy, climate resilient buildings, and zero-emissions transportation make sense for every household,” said Duanne Andrade, SELF’s Executive Director. “We are excited and honored to have the opportunity to make these common-sense, impactful solutions affordable to everyone, especially to those disproportionately burdened with energy and housing costs in disinvested neighborhoods. This historic funding is a dream come true for SELF and others who have been striving for decades to prove that the non-profit Green Bank model is the most inclusive and effective mechanism to achieve a just transition to a clean energy economy for all. We congratulate EPA’s inclusive, big-tent approach that ensures broad participation across sectors and geographies and centers low-income, disadvantaged communities. We’re excited to expand our impact through bringing both our existing programs and new initiatives to communities throughout the country. Manos a la obra! Let’s get to work.”

SELF will leverage its network of local governments, community partners, and contractors to deploy GGRF funding across the South.
